A History of Innovation
The City of Akron celebrated its bicentennial in 2025, marking 200 years of consistent reinvention. In its early days, Akron was known for being a canal hotspot, moving goods between the Ohio River and Lake Erie. Our office sits just steps away from the very spot where Sojourner Truth bravely spoke out for equality at the 1851 Women’s Rights Convention.
Most prominent is Akron’s nickname, “Rubber Capital of the World.” The canal provided the lifeblood for rubber companies like B.F. Goodrich, Goodyear, Firestone, and General Tire as they laid down their roots and truly put Akron, Ohio, on the map. Reminders of these tire titans can be seen throughout the city’s skyscrapers and industrial architecture that make up its skyline.
